I came across a quote this week in a book by Jim Cymbala. He wrote… “Revival comes when people become dissatisfied with what is and yearn deeply for what could be.” As I was preparing to speak at revival meetings this weekend I was deeply moved by this quote.
I used to think revival was something that happened around me. When other people changed… or when obstacles that seemed unmovable and situations that seemed impossible suddenly, miraculously changed. When the powerful hand of God swooped down from heaven and made the impossible happen. Like we all just stand back and watch in awe as enemies are destroyed, political atmospheres change and throngs of people turn their hearts over to Jesus.
I’ve come to learn that revival has little to do with what happens around me, but rather it has everything to do with what’s happening within me. I want a Holy dissatisfaction not only with what I see around me … but what I see deep inside my own heart. I yearn deeply for what could be when I am fully surrendered to the work Jesus wants to do in me.
