A quick look at Galatians 5 shows us a list of character traits (fruit) that we would see in the life of someone who is living fully surrendered to the leading of the Spirit. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The work of the Holy Spirit is to lead us down a path of life that produces these traits in us.
We need to be the kind of people who seek the substantial over the sensational.
This is the principle I like to call Fruit First. God desires to do something in us so that he can do something through us. Often we are anxious to jump right into doing things for God, but we fail to allow his Spirit to do the adequate work in us first to prepare us for the things he wants to do through us. We have to be careful we don’t get this backward.
