Every parent at some point has experienced fear and apprehension about raising their kids. We all feel inadequate at times and wonder if we have taught our kids everything they need to know to follow God and live by faith. Especially if you came to faith later
in life. You may live in regret wondering how things might be different if you had come to faith when your kids were younger.
In this message, I talk about practical ways to pass down faith to the next generation and actually teach our kids what it means to pursue Jesus relentlessly. We might not always get it right, but that’s not what matters most. What really matters is that your kids see your passion to follow Jesus every day.
This audio message was recorded on Fathers Day 2017. If you prefer to listen to the full audio message it is available here.
In this message I also share my story of how I grew up in an atmosphere of faith, watching my parents pursue Jesus passionately. They messed up a lot. Honestly. They came to faith later in life and as they tried their best to realign their lives around their faith they didn’t always get it right. But it didn’t matter to me. What mattered was the humility I saw in their posture towards God. They were always eager to set things right as quickly as they could and back on track with serving God. More than anything, they wanted to please God and that message came across to me loud and clear.
This is an encouragement today for every parent who wonders if they are making an impact on their kids in the area of faith. If you are passionately pursuing your relationship with Jesus, it will transfer to your kids. They will get it. Keep your heart humble and your passion strong. Be honest with your kids about your failures. Let them know when you’ve messed up and given them a chance to see what a repentive heart is like.
You don’t need to be perfect… you just need to be real.
