This video devotional is the first in a 7 session study…
In John 10:10, Jesus makes a bold statement to his followers. He said that he came that we might have life and have it to the fullest. Some versions of the bible say life more abundantly. Either way, the heart of what Jesus was offering to believers was a life that was full and overflowing in every area.
John 10:10 NIV
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
That’s a promise. But it’s not always our reality. So, my question for you today is this… what would your life look like if it was really full and abundant in every area?
Would your finances be in order?
Would you be whole and healed physically?
Would you be at peace in your mind and heart?
Would you be free from some habitual sin or negative thought patterns?
Would anxiety and depression be lifted?
Would your marriage be restored and your kids serving God?
If we are honest, we must admit there is a gap between the life I know Jesus has promised to me, and the reality of what I’m experiencing right now. We need to learn to close that gap. Jesus didn’t die just to get us into heaven. He died to give us a brand new kind of life right here on earth. He died to give us everything we need to truly live.
If we look at this scripture in the proper context, there is a clue to experiencing this life. Read the full chapter of John 10 and you’ll see that Jesus is talking about being the Good Shepherd. He speaks of a loving and trusting relationship with the sheep in which they know his voice and will not respond to any other.
Your best defence against the lies of the enemy is to know the voice of Jesus.
The enemy’s voice can be loud sometimes, but if you’ve trained yourself to know and respond to the voice of God, then the lies of the enemy fade into useless background chatter. You get to choose what voices you will listen to.
I wrote about my experience of learning to know the voice of God here.
I also spoke about the voice of God in a session at my home church. You can listen to the full-length audio message here.
