The power of encouragement.

Categories: , ,

These are six powerful little words that literally changed the course of my destiny.

When I was stuck.

When I didn’t know what to do next.

When I didn’t believe in myself.

I was wrestling with some big decisions that would shape the course of my future and honestly, I just felt so completely alone.   I remember the moment so vividly when these words entered my life.  I was having coffee with my husband on our back deck, talking about future plans, trying with all my might to convince myself that I could do it.  That’s when he whispered the words…

I think you can do it.

None of my circumstances changed.

Nothing was different.

But in just one moment, with those six little words, my internal world changed completely.  Just knowing that one person believed in my dream was enough to make me believe it for myself.  My outlook changed, and my heart was ignited with new passion and excitement.

Oh, the power our words can have.

Our words are creative.

They can instil confidence or completely demolish it.

They can bring healing and peace.

They can literally change the destiny of another human life.

Doubt is crippling. and it holds so many of us back from doing so many things.  We were never meant to walk through life doubting ourselves, and God at every turn.  We are meant to live by faith.  Encouragement can break down the walls that doubt has built, and open our eyes to greater possibilities.

The definition of encouragement is something that gives hope.  Your words have the powerful potential to give hope away to someone else.  It costs us nothing… yet is it so valuable to those we give it to.

Imagine if we took every opportunity to whisper words of love, words of grace, and words of encouragement to those around us.  Imagine if we truly believed in the words we speak, that they pass over our lips like little prayers uttered before a listening God.  What if we actually believed that our words were eternal, and have a weight that carries far beyond the moment they are spoken.

That place where you’re stuck right now.

That hurdle that is looming in your way.

That little nudge deep down inside that you haven’t acted on yet.

That thing you lay awake thinking about in the wee hours of the night.

That person you need to make things right with.

That habit you need to break.

I think you can do it.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 MSG

So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it.
