When God leads us into difficulty.

Categories: , ,

Have you ever found yourself in a place where you felt stuck, attacked, or like everything in your life is working against you?

Often when this happens we are caught off guard.  We immediately wonder how we got to this point, and if we were truly following the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit how on earth did we end up in a place where we feel so desperate.

Being led by the Spirit doesn’t mean life will be perfect… but it does mean that life will be an adventure!

There is a common misconception among followers of Christ that if we are listening to the voice of God our lives will be calm, peaceful and perfect.  When we come up against struggles and find ourselves in difficult situations we begin to question ourselves and God.

It’s important to keep in mind that sometimes God himself will lead us into uncomfortable situations and uncertain places where we might feel attacked or even completely trapped.  It’s not your fault, you haven’t missed the mark or done anything wrong to bring some sort of wrath upon yourself.  You may have been keenly alert to his voice and walking step in step with the Spirit and still wind up in situations that feel like a complete mess.  I spoke about this recently in my home church and you can listen to the full audio message here.

We aren’t promised perfection, but we are promised presence.

If we don’t understand how God works, we can be easily discouraged, distracted and disillusioned in these moments of confrontation and challenge.  But if we believe that God is good and that he leads us where he wants us to be, in order to work out his perfect plan in our lives then we can trust he has a plan to lead us forward.  But, in those moments it’s also important to remember that God may be using our circumstances to teach us something about his nature and character, to build our faith and show his love towards us.

I’ve put together a quick list of three questions you can ask God when you find yourself in one of those sticky situations and see no way forward.  You can read the rest of the blog post here.

Sometimes God will lead us to places we don’t want to go and we never thought we would be in order to do something bigger in our lives than we ever thought He could.
